Multivariable Robust Regulation of Alkalinities in Continuous Anaerobic Digestion Processes: Experimental Validation

نویسندگان

چکیده

A multivariable adaptive feedback control for highly uncertain continuous anaerobic digestion processes is proposed to regulate the volatile fatty acids (VFA) concentration, strong ions concentrations, and total intermediate alkalinities. The scheme includes a Luenberger observer estimate both unmeasured variables (i.e., VFA) unknown microbial growth kinetics. approach designed using an exponential Lyapunov function resemble typical biological of involved consortia. Taking into account physicochemical equilibrium, alkalinities are represented as state variables. As result, problem becomes regulation on alkalinities, in turn, tracking variables, with two manipulated variables—the dilution rate feed alkali solution—while variables’ set-points given pH. implementation this was experimentally tested validated 0.982 m3 pilot plant treating agro-industrial wastewater demonstrated be robust face Results showed potential practical application optimization industrial digesters.

Titrimetric Monitoring Of Anaerobic Digestion: VFA, Alkalinities and More

Volatile fatty acids and bicarbonate measurements are important to assess a digester’s stability and to control it. Titration methods are the most likely cost-effective methods to determine those variables with acceptable accuracy. In this paper, titrimetic methods will be classified and evaluated. Two titrimetric sensors are compared for their potential on-line use. One sensor uses advanced in...

Multistaged Anaerobic Sludge Digestion Processes

Two multistaged anaerobic digestion systems, a four-stage thermophilic anaerobic digestion (4TAD), all at 55°C, and a four-stage anaerobic digestion with a tapered temperature configuration (4ADT) at 55, 49, 43, and 37°C, respectively, were studied to evaluate their solids, volatile organic sulfur compounds, and indicator organism (E. coli and fecal coliform) reduction potentials. The 4TAD syst...

Modeling of Anaerobic Digestion of Complex Substrates

A structured mathematical model of anaerobic conversion of complex organic materials in non-ideally cyclic-batch reactors for biogas production has been developed. The  model is based on multiple-reaction stoichiometry (enzymatic hydrolysis, acidogenesis, acetogenesis and methanogenesis), microbial growth kinetics, conventional material balances in the liquid and gas phases for a cyclic-bat...

Enhanced Nutrients Removal in Conventional Anaerobic Digestion Processes

One of the main challenges for one phase anaerobic digestion processes is the high concentration of NH4 and PO4 ions in the digested sludge supernatant. This project focuses on enhancing the removal of nutrients during the anaerobic digestion process through fixing both NH4 and PO4 ions in the form of struvite (magnesium ammonium phosphate, MAP, MgNH4PO4.6H2O) within the anaerobic sludge. Batch...

Sensors network diagnosis in anaerobic digestion processes using evidence theory.

Instrumentation defines a sensors network on a process. Hardware sensors indeed allow one to get different information sources that can be often cross-checked to provide reliable data. However, each of these sources of information contains some uncertainties, either due to the hardware sensors' measurement principles, to their possible fouling, to the estimated parameters of the models used in ...
